The development of the mind comes through movement.
-Maria Montessori
In addition to our robust Physical Education program, The Village School offers three optional athletic programs to students. All programs are co-ed and practices and games are held either during recess or after school. All interested students are encouraged to participate. This is a great way for a child to experience a competitive sport in a supportive and familiar environment. Teams are coached by members of The Village School staff and focus on teaching rules and skills, cooperation, good sportsmanship and fun!
Volleyball (grades 4-8)
The Village School Volleyball team begins in the fall and ends in February each year. Coaches will assign students to certain practice days which are held during recess. The schedule each year includes games against staff/alumni as well as area schools that also have co-ed teams made up of the same ages of students. Games are held after school either in The Village School Gymnasium or at the opposing team's location (students will be bused). All are welcome to come and cheer on their classmates!
Basketball (grades 4-8)
The co-ed basketball team begins in February and is open to all students years 5 – 8. Students practice 2 -3 times during the week for their games against other private and public schools in the area as well as Village School staff/alumni. Games are held after school either in The Village School Gymnasium or at the opposing team's location (students will be bused).
Running Club (grades 3-8)
The Village School running Club is open to all students in years 3 – 8. No previous running experience is necessary. Fall Running Club meets from Sept-Nov and Spring Running Club meets from Feb – May. The Running Club is designed to introduce kids to the joys of running.
